Don't Re-Nig Republican Bumper Sticker
People often contest the reactions of Blacks when we cry foul and point out racism. Some situations that take place are sometimes not blatant enough for it to be seemed as racist, but c’mon, some situations are. Blacks have become the real-life “Diary of a Wimpy Kid”; constantly picked on because we are often (apparently or unwilling) unable to fight for ourselves. On March 3rd I wrote about Judge Cebull referring to President Obama’s dad as an animal. I said that racists laugh at us complain while they cook-up their next act of disrespect. Well, here it is. It seems like there is a new campaign in the Republican Party to combat the re-election of Barack Obama. They are displaying bumper stickers that say, “Don’t Re-Nig in 2012.” So what do you make of this? Don’t Re-Up on a Nigger? Don’t Re-Elect a Nigger? I am sure the stickers aren’t meant to be flattering. Maybe you all have better insight than me.

My friend just told me she saw this sticker this morning on the way to work. Seeing this makes me mad.
I like how you set up the three posts today all about black men in this country. I am quickly reminded how difficult it must be for a black man in this country when so many written and unwritten ways are set to disenfranchise and emasculate black men.
Although my husband has been living here for over 18 years, (D, you know him!) he tends to hold the position that “he is a foreigner in this country.” His position reminds me how important it is to make sure our home is not a place that he feels fights him. I think he has enough hostility to contend with on a daily basis.
On the bumper sticker, I am appalled and it is just hideous. I hope black men don’t get knocked off focus because some ignoramuses mock and jest at the accomplishments and failures of black men. I know black people who are republicans (that’s their choice). The bumper sticker is distasteful and it is meant to be a smear beyond a political designation.
On Lowry’s name on a jet, I concur. Writing names change histories and tells stories. I wonder how many times Lowry faced injustices? Was his life ever threatened? Was he ever stopped by the police? (All black men in this country need to know the best way to respond when stopped by the police). The airline is endorsing what Lowry represents. I also recognize that some of the ignoramuses will probably respond in (what else!) ignorance.
On the killing of an unarmed 17 year old, I am saddened. His killer killed this young man foolishly. Was this young man killed, stereotyped? Did his killer have some embedded conflict with a particular black man/men before? I am not sure we can always know the collective motive for senseless acts like this one.
We need our young black men and we need our older black men also. Some years back when your 17 year old son was about 11, I saw him in professional attire and cell phone on waist. I was so impressed by his appearance and obvious confidence. We must continue to harness the ways needed to support future legacies.
I am not deterred by the stupidity and ignorance of some. I rather look into the communities and smile at persons changing our narrative and histories–one name at a time.
They have no other way to fight back but racism..the tea party ture colors are comming out now..
more times than not we get worked up into a frenzy and are left looking angry and out of control while the ‘they’ remain calm, cool, and collect and smile with an undetected pleasure of having made a fool out of yet another one. (black)
I can conclude this bumper sticker is negative and a play on words; keeping with those that love to cut quick and claim they are just joking knowing full well their play on words are designed to covertly attack.
The key word here is covertly. Our best defense is to make sure our voter registration is optimum; our best defense is a higher turn -out rate at the polls. Whenever ‘they’ select sly covert terminology it is not in our best interest to respond verbally to their spews to do so is too be labeled as sensitive, that we are using the race card etc. We must be proactive and learn to change our mode of fight; if not we will continue to be made fools of. In these instances our actions must speak louder than any of their ( racist) words. Rock the vote revisited
White people are very quick to accuse us of of always playing the race card…but guess what… it is always in the deck to be played.
The Republicans have always had a problem with racism, but the Tea party has put them over the top, I used to say all the need was some sheets at there rallies, they have gotten so bad now, they dont care who hears what they are saying.
There is a time to be the big person and say the “sticks and stones” quote. “Turn the other cheek, we will be the bigger person”. To re-act to this stupidious bumper sticker, some feared that we will be acting out and playing in their hands. Well this IS a time that many voices should be heard and we need to speak out.
First, being a republican doesn’t mean they are part of this low blow act. I know some republicans and some are family members and one bad apple in a tree doesn’t make the whole tree bad. Anyone agreeing with displaying this bumper sticker will be part of the bad seed.
I am tired of these covertly messages being made public and nothing being done about it. It’s sending a message to other races that we can be treated how others want to treat of and show how we are not given respect which downplay the hard work some good black leaders died for and still fight for. I wish the President can step in. He has the power, but he is worrying too much about the other party labeling him as a whiny boy playing the race card.
We are being divided in this race, not by the issues at hand, not by what one party can do and what the other can’t. We are being divided by race. If something doesn’t get done, we are truly taking a step back in time as a race and it will make our plans to rebuild the black infrastructure just that much Harder.
God (Yahweh) bless America, for our Nation is not a Nation of free speech but free to taunt and degrade to have political gain.
That is totally absurd!! I am appalled and disgusted at how our President has been utterly disrespected from Day 1 because of his race and still is to this day. If someone had that bumper sticker displayed here in the islands, their car wouldn’t be safe parked anywhere. I’m just saying..that wouldn’t go too far here… We know that the bumper sticker doesn’t speak on behalf of all republicans though. As Doren said, one bad apple doesn’t make the whole tree bad. I am sure that the black Republicans are not sporting this sticker. When I see this, I think of the words of MLK ..”Let us all hope that the dark clouds of racial prejudice will soon pass away, and that in some not too distant tomorrow the radiant stars of love and brotherhood will shine over our great nation with all their scintillating beauty.” There has been progress, but obviously there is a long road ahead. That sticker displays the Tea Party racist mentality to me. I read online that these bumper stickers were sold off of a site called Stumpy’s which is now down. It get’s worse there was also a sticker on the site sporting a chimpanzee with the caption Obama 2012. If this isn’t racism in full effect, I don’t know what is. We need to make sure the voters come out in full at the polls.
Our President has been disrespected because he has been a failure and a laughingstock and has only increased others disrespect of our Country (the greatest country of opportunity and equality ever formed that you abuse); equally his policies have failed, therefore he must go (just like people like you must go).
Quit crying the blues and tough it out like everyone else in life. We all face criticism and discrimination from peers and others in life. Get over it and prove them wrong with your actions rather than your whining.
Why don’t you go to another country and live there if you don’t like it here. Jefferson had the best plan (send the blacks back to Africa; you can still go I will buy you a ticket) before Lincoln started a war that killed more white Americans for your stupid black ass than you will ever be able to repay.
Keep whining instead of working. The rest of America will get tired of your idiocy and the balance of power will correct itself because of your complaining lazy black cry babies.
